  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Red food coloring

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  3. In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  4. Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla. Mix until smooth.
  5. Stir in boiling water until combined.
  6. Pour batter into prepared pans.
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  8. Cool cakes in pans for 10 minutes, then remove and cool completely on wire racks.
  9. To make frosting, beat butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar and mix well.
  10. Add milk, vanilla, and food coloring. Mix until smooth.
  11. Frost the cooled cakes and decorate as desired.
