Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons meringue powder
  • 6 tablespoons water
  • Food coloring (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream butter and sugar until light.
  4. Add egg and extracts to the butter mixture and mix well.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture.
  6. Roll out the dough and cut into desired shapes.
  7. Bake for 8-10 minutes until edges are lightly golden.
  8. Cool the cookies completely.
  9. For royal icing, beat powdered sugar, meringue powder, and water until smooth.
  10. Color the icing if desired and decorate the cookies.
