Decorative cookies using royal icing for Valentine’s Day.


Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 3 tablespoons meringue powder
  • 1/4 cup water
  • Food coloring (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, beat butter and sugar until creamy.
  4. Add egg and vanilla to the butter mix, combine well.
  5. Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients.
  6. Roll out the dough and cut into heart shapes.
  7. Bake for 8-10 minutes until edges are golden.
  8. Let cookies cool completely.
  9. In a bowl, mix powdered sugar, meringue powder, and water until smooth.
  10. Add food coloring if desired and pipe onto cookies.
