Description

Royal icing is a hard, glossy icing used to decorate sugar cookies.


Ingredients

  • Water as needed

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, sift the powdered sugar to remove lumps.
  2. In another bowl, beat the egg whites or meringue powder with water until frothy.
  3. Add the powdered sugar to the egg mixture gradually, mixing well.
  4. Add lemon juice or vanilla and mix until smooth.
  5. If icing is too thick, add water a teaspoon at a time until desired consistency.
  6. If using for piping, keep covered with a damp cloth to prevent drying out.
