Description
Decorative royal icing cookies for Valentine’s Day.
Ingredients

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 2 egg whites
- 1 tsp lemon juice
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add egg and vanilla to the butter mixture, then mix well.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture.
- Roll out the dough and cut into heart shapes.
- Place on a baking sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes.
- Let cookies cool completely.
- In a bowl, whisk egg whites and lemon juice.
- Gradually add powdered sugar to the egg mixture until smooth.
- Decorate cooled cookies with royal icing.
Notes
- Use food coloring for different icing colors.
- Let icing dry for several hours before stacking cookies.
- Store cookies in an airtight container.
