Ingredients

- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 cup vegetable oil
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon white vinegar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Red food coloring
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, cocoa powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, whisk together oil, buttermilk, eggs, vanilla, and food coloring.
- Combine both mixtures and mix until smooth.
- Add baking soda and vinegar and mix gently.
- Pour batter evenly into prepared pans.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let cakes cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
- Frost with cream cheese frosting once cooled.
Notes
- Use gel food coloring for a more vibrant color.
- Chill the cake before frosting for easier handling.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container.
