Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  4. Stir in buttermilk and vanilla extract.
  5. In another bowl, mix flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  6. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients.
  7. Divide the batter into two bowls. Tint one bowl with red food coloring.
  8. Pour the red batter into one cake pan and the white batter into another.
  9. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  10. Let cakes cool before frosting.
