- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Red food coloring
- White frosting
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Stir in buttermilk and vanilla extract.
- In another bowl, mix flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients.
- Divide the batter into two bowls. Tint one bowl with red food coloring.
- Pour the red batter into one cake pan and the white batter into another.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let cakes cool before frosting.
Notes
- This cake can be layered for a more dramatic effect.
