Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large portobello mushrooms
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon balsamic vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 whole wheat burger buns
  • 4 slices of cheese (optional)
  • Lettuce, tomato, and onion for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat grill or skillet over medium heat.
  2. Clean the portobello mushrooms and remove the stems.
  3. In a bowl, mix olive oil, balsamic vinegar, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  4. Brush the mixture on both sides of the mushrooms.
  5. Grill the mushrooms for 5-7 minutes on each side until tender.
  6. If using cheese, place a slice on top of each mushroom during the last minute of cooking.
  7. Toast the burger buns on the grill for 1-2 minutes.
  8. Assemble the burger with lettuce, tomato, onion, and the grilled mushroom.
  9. Serve immediately.
