- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon peppermint extract
- 1/2 cup crushed peppermint candies
- Red food coloring
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Cream together butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar in a bowl.
- Add eggs and vanilla extract, mixing until smooth.
- In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture.
- Divide the dough in half. Mix peppermint extract and red food coloring into one half.
- Roll both dough halves into logs and twist them together.
- Slice the logs into 1/4-inch thick rounds and place them on a baking sheet.
- Sprinkle crushed peppermint candies on top.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes until edges are lightly golden.
- Let cool before serving.
Notes
- Store cookies in an airtight container.
- Substitute almond extract for a different flavor.
- Adjust the amount of peppermint candies to taste.
