- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 tablespoon ground ginger
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup molasses
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Royal icing for decoration
- Assorted candies for decoration
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a bowl, mix flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and salt.
- In another bowl, cream butter and brown sugar until fluffy.
- Add molasses, egg, and vanilla to the butter mixture and mix well.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until combined.
- Roll out the dough between two sheets of parchment paper to about 1/4 inch thick.
- Cut out shapes for the house and place them on a baking sheet.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes or until firm.
- Let cool completely before decorating with royal icing and candies.

- Make sure the gingerbread is fully cooled before decorating.
- Use a template for cutting house shapes for better accuracy.
- You can store the gingerbread house in an airtight container for up to a week.
