  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Royal icing for decoration

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream butter and brown sugar until fluffy.
  4. Add molasses, egg, and vanilla to the butter mixture and mix well.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until combined.
  6. Roll out the dough between two sheets of parchment paper to about 1/4 inch thick.
  7. Cut out shapes for the house and place them on a baking sheet.
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until firm.
  9. Let cool completely before decorating with royal icing and candies.
