Ingredients

  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 23 tablespoons milk
  • Food coloring (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add egg, molasses, and vanilla to the butter mixture; mix until combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients; mix until a dough forms.
  6. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to 1/4 inch thickness.
  7. Cut cookies into desired shapes and place on a baking sheet.
  8. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until firm.
  9. Let cool completely on a wire rack.
  10. Mix powdered sugar and milk to make icing; add food coloring if desired.
  11. Decorate cooled cookies with icing as desired.
