Decorative cookies for Halloween using royal icing.


Ingredients

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons meringue powder
  • Water as needed for icing consistency

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream butter and sugar until smooth.
  4. Add egg and extracts to the butter mixture and mix well.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture.
  6. Roll out the dough and cut out shapes.
  7. Bake for 8-10 minutes until edges are golden.
  8. Let cookies cool completely.
  9. In a bowl, combine powdered sugar, meringue powder, and water to make royal icing.
  10. Decorate cookies with royal icing once they are cool.
