Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Stir in buttermilk and vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, combine flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually mix dry ingredients into wet mixture.
- Add green food coloring to achieve desired shade.
- Divide batter evenly between prepared pans.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool cakes in pans for 10 minutes, then remove to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Frost the top of one cake layer with buttercream, place the second layer on top, and frost the entire cake.
- Decorate with green fondant and edible football decorations.
