A fun and creative gingerbread house competition for participants of all ages.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tablespoon ground ginger
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup molasses
- 2 cups royal icing
- Assorted candies for decoration
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a bowl, mix flour, cocoa powder, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, cream butter and brown sugar.
- Add egg and molasses to the butter mixture and mix well.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients.
- Roll dough out to 1/4 inch thick and cut shapes for the house.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes until firm.
- Let cool completely before assembling.
- Use royal icing to assemble the house and decorate with candies.

- Make sure the gingerbread is completely cool before assembling.
- Use a template for even house shapes.
- Let the royal icing dry completely before moving the houses.
