Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon ground ginger
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 2 cups royal icing
  • Assorted candies for decoration

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, cocoa powder, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream butter and brown sugar.
  4. Add egg and molasses to the butter mixture and mix well.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients.
  6. Roll dough out to 1/4 inch thick and cut shapes for the house.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes until firm.
  8. Let cool completely before assembling.
  9. Use royal icing to assemble the house and decorate with candies.
