Ingredients

- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup molasses
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon ground ginger
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- Royal icing for decoration
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a bowl, mix flour, brown sugar, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and salt.
- In another bowl, combine molasses, butter, and egg.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture.
- Knead the dough until smooth.
- Roll out the dough to 1/4 inch thick.
- Cut into heart shapes and place on baking sheets.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes or until firm.
- Let cool before decorating with royal icing.
Notes
- Store cookies in an airtight container.
- Use different icing colors for decoration.
- Allow cookies to cool completely before icing.
