A hearty dish made with black eyed peas and ham.
Ingredients

- 1 cup black eyed peas
- 1 cup diced ham
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 4 cups chicken broth
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 bay leaf
Instructions
- Rinse the black eyed peas and soak them overnight.
- In a large pot, sauté the onion and garlic until soft.
- Add the diced ham and cook for a few minutes.
- Add the soaked peas, chicken broth, black pepper, salt, and bay leaf.
- Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 1 hour.
- Remove the bay leaf and serve hot.
Notes
- Serve with cornbread for a complete meal.
- Can be made in a slow cooker for convenience.
