A hearty dish combining black eyed peas and ham for a comforting meal.
Ingredients

- 1 cup black eyed peas, dried
- 1 ham hock or 2 cups diced ham
- 4 cups chicken broth
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 bay leaf
- 2 carrots, diced
- 2 celery stalks, diced
Instructions
- Soak the black eyed peas overnight in water.
- Drain and rinse the peas.
- In a large pot, sauté onion and garlic until soft.
- Add ham hock, broth, carrots, celery, and peas.
- Season with black pepper, salt, and bay leaf.
- Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 1.5 hours.
- Remove the ham hock, shred the meat, and return to the pot.
- Serve warm.

- Adjust seasoning to taste.
- Serve with cornbread for a complete meal.
