Ingredients

  • 8 cups beef broth
  • 1 pound rice noodles
  • 1 pound beef sirloin, thinly sliced
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 piece ginger, sliced
  • 2 star anise
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 2 tablespoons fish sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • Fresh basil leaves
  • Bean sprouts
  • Lime wedges

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, combine beef broth, onion, garlic, ginger, star anise, and cinnamon stick. Bring to a boil.
  2. Reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes to develop flavor.
  3. Strain the broth and return it to the pot. Add fish sauce and sugar.
  4. Cook rice noodles according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  5. In bowls, place rice noodles and top with sliced beef.
  6. Pour hot broth over the noodles and beef.
  7. Garnish with basil leaves, bean sprouts, and lime wedges.
