Description
A traditional Vietnamese feast to celebrate the Lunar New Year.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups of sticky rice
- 1 cup of mung beans
- 1 cup of pork belly
- 5 banana leaves
- 1 tablespoon of salt
- 1 tablespoon of sugar
- 4 tablespoons of fish sauce
- 1 tablespoon of black pepper
- Fresh herbs for garnish
Instructions
- Soak the sticky rice and mung beans overnight.
- Steam the mung beans until soft.
- Mix mung beans with salt and sugar.
- Prepare a mixture of pork belly with fish sauce and black pepper.
- Layer banana leaves in a mold.
- Add a layer of sticky rice, then a layer of mung beans, followed by a layer of pork belly.
- Cover with more sticky rice and fold the banana leaves over.
- Steam for 4 hours.
- Let it cool before slicing.
- Garnish with fresh herbs before serving.
Notes
- Adjust seasoning to taste.
- Can be made a day in advance.
- Serve with pickled vegetables.
