Description

A traditional Vietnamese feast to celebrate the Lunar New Year.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups of sticky rice
  • 1 cup of mung beans
  • 1 cup of pork belly
  • 5 banana leaves
  • 1 tablespoon of salt
  • 1 tablespoon of sugar
  • 4 tablespoons of fish sauce
  • 1 tablespoon of black pepper
  • Fresh herbs for garnish

Instructions

  1. Soak the sticky rice and mung beans overnight.
  2. Steam the mung beans until soft.
  3. Mix mung beans with salt and sugar.
  4. Prepare a mixture of pork belly with fish sauce and black pepper.
  5. Layer banana leaves in a mold.
  6. Add a layer of sticky rice, then a layer of mung beans, followed by a layer of pork belly.
  7. Cover with more sticky rice and fold the banana leaves over.
  8. Steam for 4 hours.
  9. Let it cool before slicing.
  10. Garnish with fresh herbs before serving.

Notes

  • Adjust seasoning to taste.
  • Can be made a day in advance.
  • Serve with pickled vegetables.
