Description

A traditional turkey dish for Thanksgiving celebration.


Ingredients

  • 1 whole turkey (1214 pounds)
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 4 cups bread crumbs
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 celery stalks, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon dried sage
  • 1 tablespoon dried thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
  2. In a large bowl, mix bread crumbs, onion, celery, sage, thyme, salt, and pepper.
  3. Stuff the turkey with the bread mixture.
  4. Rub the softened butter all over the turkey.
  5. Place turkey in a roasting pan and pour chicken broth around it.
  6. Cover with foil and roast for 2.5 to 3 hours.
  7. Remove foil for the last 30 minutes to brown the skin.
  8. Check the internal temperature; it should reach 165°F (74°C).
  9. Let the turkey rest for 20 minutes before carving.

Notes

  • Keep the turkey covered until the last half hour of cooking.
  • Use fresh herbs for more flavor.
  • Make sure to baste the turkey every hour.
