Description

Tteokbokki is a popular Korean street food made with spicy rice cakes, fish cakes, and a sweet and spicy sauce.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb Korean rice cakes
  • 4 cups water
  • 2 tbsp gochujang (Korean red chili paste)
  • 1 tbsp gochugaru (Korean red chili flakes)
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1/2 lb fish cakes, sliced
  • 2 green onions, chopped

Instructions

  1. Soak the rice cakes in water for 30 minutes if they are hard.
  2. In a pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil.
  3. Add gochujang, gochugaru, sugar, and soy sauce to the boiling water.
  4. Stir to dissolve the sauce ingredients.
  5. Add the rice cakes to the pot and cook for 5-7 minutes.
  6. Stir frequently until the sauce thickens and coats the rice cakes.
  7. Add fish cakes and cook for an additional 3 minutes.
  8. Garnish with chopped green onions before serving.

Notes

  • Adjust the spice level by adding more or less gochujang.
  • Serve hot for the best taste.
  • You can add boiled eggs or cabbage for extra flavor.
