Description

A traditional English dessert made with layers of sponge cake, custard, fruit, and whipped cream.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound sponge cake
  • 2 cups mixed berries
  • 2 cups custard
  • 2 cups whipped cream
  • 1 cup sherry (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cut the sponge cake into cubes.
  2. Layer half of the cake cubes in a trifle dish.
  3. Drizzle sherry over the cake (if using).
  4. Add half of the mixed berries on top of the cake.
  5. Pour half of the custard over the berries.
  6. Add half of the whipped cream on top of the custard.
  7. Repeat the layers with the remaining ingredients.
  8. Chill for at least 2 hours before serving.

Notes

  • Use seasonal fruits for best flavor.
  • Can be made a day in advance.
  • Substitute sherry with fruit juice for a non-alcoholic version.
