Description
A traditional English dessert made with layers of sponge cake, custard, fruit, and whipped cream.
Ingredients

- 1 pound sponge cake
- 2 cups mixed berries
- 2 cups custard
- 2 cups whipped cream
- 1 cup sherry (optional)
Instructions
- Cut the sponge cake into cubes.
- Layer half of the cake cubes in a trifle dish.
- Drizzle sherry over the cake (if using).
- Add half of the mixed berries on top of the cake.
- Pour half of the custard over the berries.
- Add half of the whipped cream on top of the custard.
- Repeat the layers with the remaining ingredients.
- Chill for at least 2 hours before serving.
Notes
- Use seasonal fruits for best flavor.
- Can be made a day in advance.
- Substitute sherry with fruit juice for a non-alcoholic version.
