A guide to preparing Thanksgiving turkeys

- 1 whole turkey (12–14 pounds)
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 celery stalks, chopped
- 2 carrots, chopped
- 4 cups turkey broth
- 2 cups stuffing mix
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon dried rosemary
Instructions
- Thaw the turkey in the refrigerator for 2-3 days.
- Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C).
- Remove the giblets and neck from the turkey cavity.
- Pat the turkey dry with paper towels.
- Rub the butter all over the turkey and season with salt and pepper.
- Stuff the turkey with the mixture of onion, celery, carrots, and stuffing mix.
- Place the turkey in a roasting pan.
- Pour turkey broth into the pan.
- Cover with foil and roast for 3-4 hours.
- Remove foil during the last hour to brown the skin.
Notes
- Let the turkey rest for 30 minutes before carving.
- Use a meat thermometer to ensure the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
- Save leftovers for sandwiches or soups.
