- 1 whole turkey (12–14 pounds)
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 cups chicken broth
- 4 cups bread cubes
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 celery stalks, chopped
- 1 tablespoon dried sage
- 1 tablespoon dried thyme
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
- Prepare the turkey by removing giblets and patting it dry.
- Rub softened butter all over the turkey.
- In a pan, sauté onion and celery until soft.
- Combine bread cubes, sautéed vegetables, sage, thyme, salt, and pepper.
- Stuff the turkey cavity with the bread mixture.
- Place the turkey in a roasting pan and pour chicken broth around it.
- Cover with foil and roast for 3 hours.
- Remove the foil and roast for an additional hour until golden brown.
- Let the turkey rest for 20 minutes before carving.
Notes
- Brining the turkey overnight can enhance flavor.
- Use a meat thermometer to check for doneness (165°F in the thickest part).
- Letting the turkey rest allows juices to redistribute.
