Ingredients

  • Turkey – 1 whole (12-14 lbs)
  • Butter – 1 cup, softened
  • Salt – 2 tablespoons
  • Pepper – 1 tablespoon
  • Garlic – 4 cloves, minced
  • Onion – 1, chopped
  • Carrots – 2, chopped
  • Celery – 2 stalks, chopped
  • Chicken broth – 4 cups
  • Thyme – 1 tablespoon, dried
  • Rosemary – 1 tablespoon, dried
  • Stuffing – 1 box
  • Cranberry sauce – 1 can
  • Pumpkin pie – 1, store-bought or homemade

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 325°F (165°C).
  2. Prepare the turkey by thawing if frozen and removing the giblets.
  3. Rub butter all over the turkey and season with salt, pepper, garlic, thyme, and rosemary.
  4. Stuff the turkey with stuffing or vegetables.
  5. Place turkey in a roasting pan and add chopped onion, carrots, and celery around it.
  6. Pour chicken broth into the pan.
  7. Cover the turkey with foil and roast in the oven for 2-3 hours.
  8. Remove the foil for the last 30 minutes to brown the skin.
  9. Check the internal temperature; it should reach 165°F (75°C).
  10. Let the turkey rest for 20 minutes before carving.
  11. Serve with cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie.

  • Make sure to baste the turkey every hour.
  • For extra flavor, add herbs to the broth.
  • Use leftovers for sandwiches or soups.
