Ingredients
- Turkey – 1 whole (12-14 lbs)
- Butter – 1 cup, softened
- Salt – 2 tablespoons
- Pepper – 1 tablespoon
- Garlic – 4 cloves, minced
- Onion – 1, chopped
- Carrots – 2, chopped
- Celery – 2 stalks, chopped
- Chicken broth – 4 cups
- Thyme – 1 tablespoon, dried
- Rosemary – 1 tablespoon, dried
- Stuffing – 1 box
- Cranberry sauce – 1 can
- Pumpkin pie – 1, store-bought or homemade
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 325°F (165°C).
- Prepare the turkey by thawing if frozen and removing the giblets.
- Rub butter all over the turkey and season with salt, pepper, garlic, thyme, and rosemary.
- Stuff the turkey with stuffing or vegetables.
- Place turkey in a roasting pan and add chopped onion, carrots, and celery around it.
- Pour chicken broth into the pan.
- Cover the turkey with foil and roast in the oven for 2-3 hours.
- Remove the foil for the last 30 minutes to brown the skin.
- Check the internal temperature; it should reach 165°F (75°C).
- Let the turkey rest for 20 minutes before carving.
- Serve with cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie.
Notes
- Make sure to baste the turkey every hour.
- For extra flavor, add herbs to the broth.
- Use leftovers for sandwiches or soups.
