Description
Traditional Sri Lankan New Year food featuring a variety of dishes.
Ingredients
- Rice – 2 cups
- Jackfruit – 1 cup
- Jaggery – 1 cup
- Coconut milk – 1 cup
- Green gram – 1 cup
- Cashews – 1/2 cup
- Raisins – 1/2 cup
- Ginger – 1 tsp
- Cardamom – 1 tsp
- Salt – to taste
Instructions
- Wash the rice and soak it for 30 minutes.
- Cook the rice in a pot with water until soft.
- In a separate pot, boil green gram until tender.
- Add jaggery and coconut milk to a pan and heat until melted.
- Combine the cooked rice, green gram, and melted jaggery mixture.
- Add chopped jackfruit, cashews, raisins, ginger, and cardamom.
- Mix everything well and cook for another 10 minutes.
- Serve warm.
Notes
- This dish is commonly prepared during the Sri Lankan New Year.
- You can adjust the sweetness by adding more or less jaggery.
- Feel free to add more dried fruits or nuts as desired.
