Ingredients

- Water: 1 ½ cups (360 milliliters), warm (about 110°F or 43°C)
- Active dry yeast: 2 teaspoons (7 grams)
- Salt: 1 ½ teaspoons (9 grams)
- Sugar: 1 tablespoon (12 grams)
Instructions
- Gather all your ingredients in one place.
- Activate the yeast by combining warm water and sugar, then sprinkle yeast over it and let it sit for 5-10 minutes.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt, then add the yeast mixture and stir until a shaggy dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Shape the dough into a ball, place it in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 to 1.5 hours until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough, shape it into a round loaf, and place it on a baking sheet or in a greased pan.
- Cover the shaped dough and let it rise for another 30-45 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C), make slashes on top of the dough, and bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
- Let the bread cool on a wire rack for at least 20 minutes before slicing.
