Description

Seafood chowder is a creamy, hearty soup featuring a delightful mix of fresh seafood, including fish, shrimp, and clams, simmered in a rich broth with potatoes, onions, and celery.

Ingredients

  • Fresh fish: 300 grams of diced fish like cod or haddock
  • Shrimp: 200 grams of peeled and deveined shrimp
  • Clams: 200 grams of cleaned clams
  • Potatoes: 2 medium potatoes, peeled and diced
  • Onions: 1 medium onion, chopped
  • Celery: 2 stalks of chopped celery
  • Garlic: 3 cloves of minced garlic
  • Heavy cream: 500 ml of heavy cream
  • Butter: 2 tablespoons of butter
  • Fresh thyme: 1 teaspoon of chopped fresh thyme (or 1/2 teaspoon dried)
  • Salt and pepper: Season to taste
  • Fish stock or water: 1 liter of fish stock or water

Instructions

  1. Melt the butter in a large pot over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and celery, sauté for about 5 minutes until translucent.
  2. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute. Add the diced potatoes and pour in the fish stock or water. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer for 10-15 minutes until potatoes are tender.
  3. Gently add the diced fresh fish, shrimp, and clams to the pot. Stir carefully and let simmer for a few minutes until seafood is cooked through.
  4. Pour in the heavy cream, add thyme, and season with salt and pepper. Simmer for an additional 5-7 minutes.
  5. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary. Serve warm with crusty bread or crackers.
