Ingredients

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons meringue powder
- 5 tablespoons water
- Food coloring (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the egg and vanilla to the butter mixture, mixing well.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until combined.
- Roll out the dough and cut shapes using cookie cutters.
- Bake cookies for 8-10 minutes or until lightly golden.
- Let cookies cool completely.
- In a bowl, mix powdered sugar, meringue powder, and water to make royal icing.
- Divide icing and tint with food coloring if desired.
- Decorate cookies with royal icing and let dry completely.

- Store cookies in an airtight container.
- Allow icing to dry for at least 24 hours.
