A classic roast turkey recipe for Thanksgiving.

- 1 whole turkey (12–14 lbs)
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 tablespoons salt
- 1 tablespoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon onion powder
- 2 cups chicken broth
- Fresh herbs (rosemary, thyme, sage)
- 1 onion, quartered
- 2 carrots, chopped
- 2 celery stalks, chopped
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
- Remove the turkey giblets and pat the turkey dry with paper towels.
- Rub the softened butter all over the turkey.
- Season the turkey with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
- Stuff the cavity with onions, carrots, celery, and fresh herbs.
- Place the turkey breast side up in a roasting pan.
- Pour chicken broth into the pan.
- Cover the turkey with foil and roast for 2.5 to 3 hours.
- Remove the foil and roast for an additional hour until the skin is golden brown.
- Check the internal temperature; it should reach 165°F (75°C).
- Let the turkey rest for 20-30 minutes before carving.
Notes
- Brine the turkey overnight for extra flavor.
- Use a meat thermometer for accuracy.
- Save the drippings for gravy.
