Ingredients

- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 cup vegetable oil
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tablespoons red food coloring
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

- 1 teaspoon vinegar
- 1 teaspoon cocoa powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 8 oz cream cheese
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a bowl, mix flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, mix sugar, oil, buttermilk, eggs, food coloring, and vanilla.
- Combine the wet and dry ingredients until smooth.
- Add vinegar and mix well.
- Divide the batter between the prepared pans.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks.
- For the frosting, beat cream cheese and butter until creamy, then add powdered sugar and vanilla.
- Frost the cooled cakes and layer them.
- Decorate as desired.
Notes
- Use gel food coloring for a vibrant red color.
- Let the cakes cool completely before frosting.
- Store in the refrigerator if not serving immediately.
