Ingredients

  • 8 oz cream cheese
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  3. In a bowl, mix flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  4. In another bowl, mix sugar, oil, buttermilk, eggs, food coloring, and vanilla.
  5. Combine the wet and dry ingredients until smooth.
  6. Add vinegar and mix well.
  7. Divide the batter between the prepared pans.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  9. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks.
  10. For the frosting, beat cream cheese and butter until creamy, then add powdered sugar and vanilla.
  11. Frost the cooled cakes and layer them.
  12. Decorate as desired.
