- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 4 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract

- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup purple food coloring
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a mixing bowl, cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Stir in the vanilla extract and purple food coloring.
- In another bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
- Alternate adding the dry ingredients and buttermilk to the wet mixture, starting and ending with the flour.
- Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks.
Notes
- Store the cake in an airtight container.
- Frost with cream cheese frosting for added flavor.
- Adjust food coloring for desired shade of purple.
