Description

Pink Velvet Heart Cookies are a delightful twist on the classic red velvet cookie, soft and chewy with a beautiful pink hue, perfect for special occasions.

Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour: 2 cups (240 g)
  • Cocoa powder: 2 tablespoons (15 g)
  • Baking soda: 1 teaspoon (5 g)
  • Salt: 1/2 teaspoon (2 g)
  • Unsalted butter: 1/2 cup (113 g), softened
  • Granulated sugar: 1 cup (200 g)
  • Egg: 1 large
  • Vanilla extract: 1 teaspoon (5 ml)
  • Buttermilk: 1/2 cup (120 ml)
  • Red food coloring: 1 tablespoon (or to desired color)
  • Powdered sugar: for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare your kitchen with all necessary tools.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened unsalted butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the egg and vanilla extract to the butter-sugar mixture and mix well. In a separate bowl, mix the buttermilk and red food coloring, then add to the butter mixture.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined.
  6. Using a cookie scoop or tablespoon, drop rounded balls of dough onto a prepared baking sheet and gently flatten each ball slightly to form a heart shape.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes, until the edges are set but the centers are still soft. Allow to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  8. Once cooled, dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

  • Avoid overmixing the dough to keep cookies soft.
  • Always preheat your oven for even baking.
  • Measure ingredients accurately for best results.
  • Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet before transferring.
  • Use softened butter and room temperature eggs for a smooth batter.
