Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a skillet, melt the butter and brown sugar over low heat until smooth.
  3. Pour the mixture into a greased 9-inch round cake pan.
  4. Arrange the pecans in a single layer over the caramel mixture.
  5. In a bowl, beat together the granulated sugar, eggs, and vanilla.
  6. In another bowl, whisk the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  7. Alternately add the dry ingredients and buttermilk to the egg mixture.
  8. Pour the batter over the pecans in the cake pan.
  9. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  10. Let it cool for 10 minutes, then invert onto a serving plate.
