Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 4 large egg yolks
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, softened butter, sugar, and salt.
  3. Add water gradually and form a dough.
  4. Roll out the dough and place it in a tart pan.
  5. Bake the crust for 20 minutes or until golden.
  6. In a saucepan, combine brown sugar and cornstarch.
  7. Whisk in milk and cook over medium heat until thickened.
  8. In a bowl, beat egg yolks and temper with hot mixture.
  9. Return to heat and cook for 2 minutes.
  10. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla and butter.
  11. Pour filling into the baked crust and chill until set.

Notes

  • Serve chilled for best flavor.
  • Can be topped with whipped cream.
