Description
Nian Gao is a traditional Chinese rice cake served during the Lunar New Year.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups glutinous rice flour
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1/2 cup red bean paste (optional)
Instructions
- Mix glutinous rice flour and water in a bowl until smooth.
- Add sugar and vegetable oil, mix well.
- If using, fold in red bean paste.
- Pour the mixture into a greased cake pan.
- Steam for 45 minutes.
- Let it cool before slicing.
Notes
- Serve with sweet soy sauce or plain.
- Can be refrigerated for a few days.
- Use a sharp knife for slicing.
