Description

Nian Gao is a traditional Chinese rice cake served during the Lunar New Year.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups glutinous rice flour
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup red bean paste (optional)

Instructions

  1. Mix glutinous rice flour and water in a bowl until smooth.
  2. Add sugar and vegetable oil, mix well.
  3. If using, fold in red bean paste.
  4. Pour the mixture into a greased cake pan.
  5. Steam for 45 minutes.
  6. Let it cool before slicing.

Notes

  • Serve with sweet soy sauce or plain.
  • Can be refrigerated for a few days.
