- 8 cups of day-old bread, cubed
- 4 cups of whole milk
- 1 cup of granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon of ground nutmeg
- 1/2 cup of raisins (optional)
- 1/2 cup of chopped pecans (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large bowl, combine the bread cubes and milk. Let it soak for 20 minutes.
- In another bowl, whisk together sugar, eggs, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- Mix the egg mixture into the soaked bread.
- Add raisins and pecans if using. Stir to combine.
- Pour the mixture into a greased baking dish.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes until set and golden brown.
- Cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- Serve warm with a drizzle of caramel sauce.
- Store leftovers in the refrigerator.
