A simple and creamy homemade vanilla custard.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3 large egg yolks
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, combine milk, sugar, cornstarch, and salt.
  2. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until thickened.
  3. In a bowl, whisk egg yolks. Gradually add a small amount of the hot mixture to the yolks to temper them.
  4. Return the egg mixture to the saucepan and cook for an additional minute.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
  6. Pour custard into serving dishes and chill before serving.

Notes

  • Store custard in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Can be served warm or cold.
