Description

Delicious homemade flaky croissants that are perfect for breakfast or a snack.


Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon instant yeast
  • 1 1/4 cups cold milk
  • 1 1/4 cups unsalted butter, cold
  • 1 egg for egg wash

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.
  2. Add cold milk and mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  4. Wrap the dough in plastic and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  5. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to a rectangle.
  6. Place cold butter in the center and fold dough over to encase it.
  7. Roll out again and fold into thirds. Repeat this step two more times.
  8. Chill the dough for 1 hour between folds.
  9. Roll out the dough and cut into triangles.
  10. Roll each triangle from the base to the tip to shape the croissant.
  11. Place on a baking sheet and let rise for 1 hour.
  12. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  13. Brush with egg wash and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.

Notes

  • Ensure butter is cold for better flakiness.
  • Use high-quality flour for best results.
