Description
A rich chocolate cake filled with cream cheese and topped with chocolate cream cheese buttercream.
Ingredients

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup cocoa powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup cocoa powder
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup milk
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes.
- Stir in boiling water until well combined.
- Pour batter into prepared pans.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes.
- Let cakes cool for 10 minutes in pans, then remove to wire racks to cool completely.
- In a bowl, beat cream cheese and powdered sugar until smooth.
- Spread cream cheese mixture between the layers of cake.
- In another bowl, beat butter and cocoa powder until smooth.
- Add powdered sugar and milk. Beat until creamy.
- Frost the top and sides of the cake with chocolate cream cheese buttercream.
Notes
- Store leftovers in the refrigerator.
- Let the cake sit for a few hours for flavors to meld.
