Description
Hamburger steaks are a delightful dish that combines the flavors of a classic hamburger with the heartiness of a steak, served without a bun and topped with rich gravy.
Ingredients
- Ground beef: 1 lb (450 g)
- Onion: 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- Garlic: 2 cloves, minced
- Worcestershire sauce: 2 tablespoons
- Salt: 1 teaspoon
- Pepper: 1/2 teaspoon
- Beef broth: 1 cup (240 ml)
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, finely chopped onion, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.
- Divide the mixture into four equal portions, roll each into a ball, and flatten into a patty about 1 inch thick.
- Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat and cook the hamburger steaks for about 4-5 minutes on each side until browned and cooked through.
- In the same skillet, pour in the beef broth and bring to a gentle simmer, scraping the bottom of the pan.
- Mix cornstarch with water to create a slurry, add it to the simmering broth, and stir until the gravy thickens.
- Return the cooked hamburger steaks to the skillet, spoon gravy over them, and let simmer for an additional 2-3 minutes before serving.
Notes
- Choose ground beef with a fat content of around 80/20 for juiciness.
- Let the patties rest for a few minutes after cooking to keep them juicy.
- Feel free to customize with optional ingredients like herbs, cheese, or vegetables.
