Gingerbread cookies decorated for the holidays.
Ingredients

- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 tablespoon ground ginger
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup molasses
- Decorating icing
- Sprinkles
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a bowl, mix flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt.
- In another bowl, cream butter, sugar, and brown sugar.
- Add egg and molasses to the butter mixture and blend.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix well.
- Chill the dough for at least 1 hour.
- Roll out the dough and cut into shapes.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes.
- Let cool before decorating.
- Decorate with icing and sprinkles as desired.
Notes
- Store cookies in an airtight container.
- Dough can be made ahead and chilled overnight.
- Use a variety of cookie cutters for fun shapes.
