Ingredients

  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, minced
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 4 cups vegetable broth
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Rinse the split peas under cold water.
  2. In a pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat.
  3. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent.
  4. Add garlic and ginger, cook for 2 minutes.
  5. Stir in turmeric, cumin, and paprika.
  6. Add the rinsed split peas and vegetable broth.
  7. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 30-40 minutes until peas are tender.
  8. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
  9. Serve hot with injera or rice.
