Description

A traditional Chinese pastry enjoyed during the New Year celebrations.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Red bean paste for filling

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Add softened butter and water to the dry ingredients. Mix until smooth.
  4. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes.
  5. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and let it rest for 30 minutes.
  6. Roll out the dough and cut it into circles.
  7. Place a spoonful of red bean paste in the center of each circle.
  8. Fold the dough over the filling and seal it.
  9. Brush the tops with beaten egg.
  10. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.

Notes

  • Store pastries in an airtight container.
  • Can use other fillings like lotus seed paste.
