Ingredients

  • 2 lbs pork shoulder
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Chinese rice wine
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon five-spice powder
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon red food coloring (optional)

Instructions

  1. Slice the pork shoulder into long strips.
  2. In a bowl, mix soy sauce, honey, hoisin sauce, rice wine, sugar, five-spice powder, garlic, and food coloring.
  3. Marinate the pork in the mixture for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
  4. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  5. Place the marinated pork on a rack over a baking tray.
  6. Bake for 30 minutes, basting with leftover marinade halfway through.
  7. Broil for an additional 5-10 minutes for a charred finish.
  8. Let it rest before slicing.
