Ingredients
- All-purpose flour: 1 ½ cups (190 g)
- Unsweetened cocoa powder: ½ cup (50 g)
- Baking soda: 1 teaspoon
- Salt: ¼ teaspoon
- Unsweetened chocolate: 4 oz (113 g), chopped
- Butter: ½ cup (115 g), unsalted
- Brown sugar: 1 cup (200 g), packed
- Granulated sugar: ½ cup (100 g)
- Eggs: 2 large
- Vanilla extract: 1 teaspoon
- Chili powder: 1 teaspoon (adjust to taste)
- Chocolate chips: 1 cup (175 g), semi-sweet or dark
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare your baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, salt, and chili powder.
- In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the chopped unsweetened chocolate and butter together in 30-second intervals, stirring until smooth.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the brown sugar and granulated sugar, then add the melted chocolate and butter mixture.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined.
- Fold in the chocolate chips and drop rounded balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each cookie.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes until the edges are set but the centers are still soft.
- Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
