Ingredients
- All-purpose flour: 4 cups (plus extra for dusting)
- Granulated sugar: 1/2 cup (divided)
- Active dry yeast: 2 1/4 teaspoons (1 packet)
- Milk: 1 cup (warm, about 110°F or 43°C)
- Unsalted butter: 1/4 cup (melted, plus extra for greasing)
- Eggs: 2 large
- Salt: 1/2 teaspoon
- Fresh or canned cherries: 1 cup (pitted and chopped)
- Granulated sugar: 1 tablespoon (for cherry filling)
- Cream cheese: 4 oz (softened)
- Powdered sugar: 1 cup
- Vanilla extract: 1 teaspoon
- Milk: A splash, if needed (for glaze)
Instructions
- Prepare the dough by combining warm milk with 1 tablespoon of sugar and sprinkling yeast over it. Let it sit until frothy.
- In a large bowl, mix flour, remaining sugar, and salt. Make a well and add melted butter, eggs, and yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
- Prepare the cherry filling by mixing chopped cherries with 1 tablespoon of sugar and set aside.
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it into a rectangle. Spread cream cheese and cherry mixture on top, then roll into a log and seal the seams.
- Cut the log into 12 pieces and place in a greased baking dish. Let rise again for 30-45 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake rolls for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
- Prepare the glaze by mixing cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla. Add milk for drizzling consistency.
- Drizzle glaze over warm rolls and enjoy!
