Description

A comforting and delicious meal featuring smoked sausage, tender potatoes, and gooey cheddar cheese, perfect for busy weeknights or family gatherings.

Ingredients

  • Smoked sausage: 450 grams (about 1 pound), sliced
  • Potatoes: 900 grams (about 2 pounds), diced into 1-inch cubes
  • Cheddar cheese: 250 grams (about 2 cups), shredded
  • Onion: 1 medium, diced
  • Garlic: 3 cloves, minced
  • Olive oil: 2 tablespoons
  • Salt: to taste
  • Pepper: to taste
  • Fresh parsley (optional): for garnish

Instructions

  1. Wash and peel the potatoes if desired, then dice them into 1-inch cubes.
  2. Slice the smoked sausage into bite-sized pieces and dice the onion and mince the garlic.
  3. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat, add the sausage and onion, and cook for 5-7 minutes until browned.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, combine diced potatoes with remaining olive oil, minced garlic, salt, and pepper, and toss until well-coated.
  5. In a large baking dish, mix the sautéed sausage and onion with the seasoned potatoes.
  6. Spread the mixture evenly in the baking dish and sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top.
  7. Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F) and bake for 30-35 minutes, stirring halfway through, until potatoes are tender and golden brown.
  8. Return the dish to the oven for an additional 5-10 minutes to melt the cheese until bubbly and golden.

Notes

  • Choose starchy potatoes like russets for a fluffy texture.
  • Season potatoes generously with salt and pepper, and consider adding spices for extra flavor.
  • Experiment with different cheeses for a unique twist.
  • Watch the cooking time to ensure potatoes are tender but not mushy.
  • Let the dish rest for a few minutes before serving to allow the cheese to set.
