Description
Campbell’s Green Bean Casserole is a classic dish that combines fresh green beans, creamy mushroom soup, and crispy onions, making it a favorite for family gatherings and holiday meals.
Ingredients
- Fresh green beans: 500 grams, trimmed and cut into 1-inch pieces
- Cream of mushroom soup: 1 can (about 300 grams)
- Milk: 120 milliliters (1/2 cup)
- French fried onions: 100 grams, divided
- Black pepper: 1/2 teaspoon (or to taste)
- Salt: 1/2 teaspoon (optional, to taste)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 175°C (350°F).
- In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil and cook the trimmed green beans for 5-7 minutes until bright green and slightly tender. Drain and set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the cream of mushroom soup, milk, black pepper, and salt (if using). Stir until well blended.
- Add the cooked green beans to the soup mixture and stir gently to coat. Transfer to a greased 2-quart baking dish.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes until hot and bubbly.
- Sprinkle remaining French fried onions on top and return to the oven for an additional 5-10 minutes until golden brown and crispy. Let cool for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
- Overcooking the green beans can lead to a mushy texture.
- Always preheat the oven for even cooking.
- Use high-quality cream of mushroom soup for the best flavor.
- Do not skip the topping of French fried onions for added crunch.
- Let the casserole cool for a few minutes before serving to help the flavors settle.
