Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  3. In a bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  5. Stir in buttermilk and vanilla extract.
  6. In another bowl, mix flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  7. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
  8. Fold in pumpkin puree.
  9. Divide the batter between the prepared pans.
  10. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  11. Let cakes cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
